The right vehicle for your family will be the one that offers you the most benefits you will be able to enjoy and get a lot out of. You should be thinking about the different ways you will be using your vehicle. If you are going to be taking it on a commute to work every day, then you will pay less in gas. Also, the smaller size of the car will make it easier for you to navigate those busy freeways and streets on your way to and from work. If you need a family car and have no real need for extra space, then a car is going to cost you less to purchase and to run. A car will also be easier for you to drive in many ways, including getting around in tight parking lots and in other busy areas including airports.

If you work in a job where you have tools and equipment to bring with you, then a truck may be the best choice because you can throw everything right in the back and go. Also, if you like to spend a lot of time outdoors, then you can fit your fishing, hunting, and camping gear in the truck bed. There are even air mattresses designed to fit in the bed of a truck, so you can turn your truck into a place to sleep as well. Trucks also make things like recycling and large shopping trips easier. However, there won't be much room for the family unless you go for a king cab truck and those will cost more.

If you have a lot of sports equipment for the kids that you will need to keep in the vehicle, such as soccer or football gear, then a van gives you the storage space without leaving everything in a place where someone can reach in and steal it. Also, if you carpool the kids to school, then you can fit more of them in a van.
